Principle-Based Teaching
Miki Kashtan, Certified NVC Trainer
Time Investment: 6 hours 26 minutes, plus handouts
Recorded in 2011
Bring your teaching of NVC to a new level with veteran trainer Miki Kashtan in these intensive course recordings. The focus of this 6-session course is on shifting the intention of your teaching from how to why while embodying the principles and practice of NVC every step of the way โ from planning to delivery.
The methodology Miki offers is to start with understanding what the people in your audience face in their environment, continue with what they might want to learn and how NVC principles can provide them with what they want, and end with how you can frame the principles in a language and context that speak to your audienceโs familiar experience.

This session provides an overview of the series. Instead of viewing NVC as a formal process of communication, and the OFNR components and dialogue template as the centerpiece of your teaching, the premise of this class is to understand them as practice tools that help us deepen and integrate a transformation of consciousness. Another aspect of this session is a focus on the core principles of NVC and recognizing a number of approaches to living the NVC consciousness as a foundation for sharing NVC with others in meaningful and inspiring ways.

This session focuses on how to present a proposed workshop to potential attendees to give them a sense of what they might learn. Together, we look at how you can imagine peopleโs needs and challenges and name your workshop in a way that speaks to those needs. By focusing on results rather than the process to get there, you identify which aspects of NVC are most relevant to the intended audience and describe them in terms of what people can concretely do when they leave the workshop.

This session focuses on how to prepare for a workshop, meeting, or presentation. Together we explore a step-by-step approach that starts with imagining the experience that will speak to peopleโs needs, adapts the principles to concrete applications relevant to this particular audience, and generates activities that support integration. By recognizing the difference between what you want to share and what people want to learn, you offer the most transformative experience while responding to where people actually are.

This session deepens the preparation process toward reaching a level of relaxed presence that allows your plan to become simply an empathic guess that meets and adapts to the reality you find. You learn to identify the core ideas you want to cover and the consciousness shift you want your audience to experience. Such clarity increases your capacity to engage fluidly with your audience.

Here we look at what happens once your plan meets the reality of the situation. After methodical preparation you focus on how to be fluid in your delivery. A key principle of this session is utilizing the power of living and using NVC rather than teaching it conceptually. By letting teaching follow lived experience, participants can understand the consciousness shift viscerally and connect each interaction to the larger principles, key points, and goals that support them.

This final session focuses on maximizing your effectiveness during actual delivery. One key focus is languageโmaking it fluid and culturally relevant so you avoid giving the impression that youโre asking people to become someone other than who they already are. This session also explores ways to empower your audience to act as change agents within their own lives and circumstances. Finally, we explore how to leave people with a practice they can continue after the workshop concludes.
